The Windows Media Resource Kit (http://www.microsoft.com/MSPress/books/6280.aspx) was published in 2003, but still has a wealth of information about deploying Windows Media in various environments. For encoding, I agree with Jerislav - Ben and James have the latest information on making best use of the ever-improving codecs.
