MTP hotfix not available
Murthy 12/29/2008 3:04:02 PM
I am using Windows XP Professional SP3.

Computer displays the error message NOT ENOUGH HARD DRIVE SPACE and DATA
TYPE PROVIDED ERROR while uploading .wav file of over or around 350MB or
larger from my Philips MP3 Player to the computer.

When I searched in net, I found solution from Philips, CNET sites that the
problem is due to the limitation of Media Transfer Protocol and I need to
download the hot fix from the
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/portablemediacenter/mtphotfix.mspx
.. However, this Microsoft link is no more available. How can I get this hot
fix? Is there any other way to get ride of the error "NOT ENOUGH HARD DRIVE
SPACE"?

Note: The hotfix was available some months back (Around May 2008). I
downloaded to my computer and got the problem corrected. However, I lost the
hotfix, when I reinstalled OS on my computer.

God I *hate* it when they do that - I've got notifications for these
sort of pages, but I never get notified they've been pulled without
warning (or identical pages)

The only MTP hotfix I can find is this
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939211

It doesn't describe the symptom you have, and it's only applicable to
Vista. Obviously, nobody uses XPSP3 so why should they maintain the
link ? <sighs>

Obviously, who on earth would have a pocket PC or portable media
center (still ? OMG after 2 years ?) and need help ? Cause all those
pages have been removed too <sighs>

So, perhaps this one might help (April 2007) :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935552/en-us
as they often contain updated files with other fixes.

Let us know how you get on with that, and uninstall it if it has no
effect.

Cool - more by luck than skill on my part though ;-)
