I upgraded the firmware in the extender and that solved the jerky/slow = playback through the extender. Media Center still plays files poorly = that Media Player plays well on the same machine. Since both (I assume) = use the same codecs, I wonder if MC requires more resources and the = machine just can't deliver?

I've been setting up a media server (Vista Home Premium) with a = dLink DSM-520 as a test base for implementing extenders (probably = DSM-750s because of MCE support) but I noticed a great difference in = playback of media files (Xvid encoded .avi) between Windows Media Player = and both MC and the dLink extender front end. Movies were unwatchable = using MC and the extender but played fine on the same machine with the = same minimal processor/drive load.
Are there settings I should tweak to get acceptable performance? = I've been using an Xbox 360 to connect to another server for months with = no problems (haven't tested with new Vista box). I'm running a 3.00 GHz = Pentium D processor with 2 gig of ram, a 10k 36gb boot drive and two 1gb = 7200 drives for media. Gigabit LAN. Am able to play the same files = over the LAN properly on WMP so it is not a network problem for the = extender.
Do I need to upgrade the hardware? I would think this wouldn't be a = problem with the dLink extender, which uses its own player software and = only pulls media off the hard drive of the Vista box. I can understand = if MC needs more power, but this is not a low-end system.
Any help or referrals to links will be appreciated. Thanks! ------=_NextPart_000_007C_01C9350B.F4785910 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
