shut down hard drive automaticly or hibernate
roadrelics 12/10/2008 1:13:01 AM
My computer power use to shut down after 20 minutes or so, now without
changing anything it has stopped & my power is always on......
Previously after 20 minutes my computer would appear to shut down as the
power light went off, then when i hit power button it would come back on to
my desktop with out having to re boot.... would that be in hibernation mode
??... I hve now tried to readjust the hibernate mode shutdown time & turn my
had drive off, but it still just goes into screen saver mode......How can i
get it back to where it was?? All my efforts in trying to readjust the times
don't seem do anything ....thanks in advance

If you can tap a key and the computer comes back to life, that would
almost surely mean it has gone itno Standby, not hibernate. With
hibernate mode, you have to turn the power back on and it boots up with
all the programs open that you had when you closed it.

If things are working right, then maybe the Standby time is set shorter
than the Hibernate time you have set, so that it goes to standby before
it ever gets to hibernate. You might want to turn the standby feature
off temporarily until you get hibernate working to your satisfaction and
then turn it back on if you want it. Just remember they can intercept
each other if one is set shorter than the other and fires first.

If that's no help, feel free to come back. Someone will surely have
ideas for you that will work.
