Find Fast
Steve Hayes <hayesmstw[ at ]hotmail.com> 10/24/2008 7:43:43 AM
Is there any way to set Find Fast so that it begins its indexing when *I* want
to do it, like 3:00 am?

And also, so that it tells me that it is running, and that a virus hasn't
taken control of my computer?

Once it starts, the only way I can continue working is to switch the power off
and restart the computer -- it takes control so completely that it is
impossible to do a normal shut-down to stop it. And then I have to wait 10
minutes for the computer to reboot -- very frustrating when I'm trying to meet
a deadline and it hi-jacks my computer at 9:30 am.

This never happens to me because I always unselect Find Fast
(and use Powerdesk PDFind rather than Windows Find anyway.)
What is the practical benefit of Find Fast?

Find Fast, installed with older MS Office suites, was deeply flawed and
problematic. The best solution to Find Fast is to disable it using its
Control Panel applet.

Get rid of it. You can disable it through the Control Panel and you can also
use this little freebie to disable it http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

You do not want to use Fast Find. A clever idea that creates poor system
performance!

Long time since I have seen a reference to Findfast. Your reaction is
the same as mine.

Find Fast is a name from the past. It rarely get a mention nowadays.
Most likely because more recent versions of Microsoft Office no longer
have Find Fast to run as a default setting.
