"Restricted Content" Message
alan_nordin[ at ]comcast.net 12/14/2008 2:57:20 AM
Hello,
Occaissionally when trying to watch TV on my PC using Media
Center, I get a completely blue screen with the following message ...

Restricted Content
Restrictions set by the broacaster and/or originator of the
content prohibit playback of the program on this computer.

This happens intermittently. I can clear the message by closing Media
Center and restaring it. Sometimes the problem will comeback within a
few minutes and sometimes it doesn't come back. This doesn't happen
each time I watch, it doesn't happen for any particular channel. My
cable TV has no problem viewing the program which the computer says is
restricted. I do not have a descrambler or other converter box between
the TV and the cable. My cable provider, COMCAST, professes no
knowledge of what is causing this. I'm assuming I have something
incorrect in either Media Center setup.

Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 - 5.1.2715.3011

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Alan

Jason,

Thanks for the info, I have applied the patch and will try it
out. As the problem was intermittent, I won't know how if it's
successful for a while.

I have Windows Automatic Update turned on, I'm surprised it
wasn't picked up by that. Perhaps not all systems have the problem.

Thanks,
Alan
