Safe Mode

How to get the long list of options for startup, one of which is Safe Mode?
I haven't used it in wuite a while, maybe forgotten how, maybe some glitch
in system. Single OS, not dual boot. Help file describes a screen from which
to select: "When you see the message Please select the operating system to
start, press F8. "
Whaaat? Don't see that. Used to be tap f8, then no trouble. Not now. f8
presents a choice of boot - floppy. CD, HDD. Advice appreciated.

Try this. After pressing F8 and seeing the boot menu displayed select the
option for HDD and press the Enter key then immediately start tapping F8
again. That should hopefully do it.

We can edit BOOT.INI
1. To add more alternative choices at boot
2. To add delay, viz. display the choices on screen
for a longer time.

Thanks, Xandros. Tried that, went round & round. Maybe a second try will
work.

I'll search for location of boot.ini. It doesn't immediately appear from
glance throught Win or Sys32.

Rob

Have you inadvertently entered the BIOS set up and are looking at the
Boot Sequence?

It's a hidden file. Easiest way to edit is to go to Control Panel->System
Properties->Advanced Tab-?Startup and Recovery section Settings Button->Edit
button.

When you see that boot order, hit Escape, and continue to tap F8.

If you can still get into Normal mode(you do not say), click Start>Run>
type: msconfig >OK>BOOT.INI Tab across the top> Select SAfe Boot>Apply>OK>
Restart>OK
