IP conflict due to old fix IP
Matt 12/30/2008 10:41:01 AM
Hi
I had this problem a few years ago but have forgotten how to solve it. I
have looked at all the forums out on the net and no one is able to solve it,
only advise is to use a different ip address which is not really a solution.
I have a windows xp sp2 pc and am trying to set a fixed ip address for it.
The network connection is appearing as "local area connection 2". When I set
the ip address it tells me that another nic on the computer has the same ip
and it could cause an issue do i want to continue.
I know that this is caused by the "local area connection 1" still being
remembered by windows which had this same ip address set for it - I remember
there was a way to go into advance settings or something and remove it from
memory as it remembers it for when you put the network card that is
associated with these settings back in the pc.
Hopefully someone can help me with this
thanks

Posting the result of ipconfig /all here may help.

HI
One computer by itself would not have such a conflict.
If you have few computers with a Network please describe what you have.
In many cases such problem comes from a static IP that is assigned with a
number that is within a Cable/DSL Router's DHCP server.
