When I open My Computer it takes 30-60 seconds to load. The sub menus are very quick to load. Any ideas, I have searched online but unable to find a solution

Without any direction from you as to what might possibly have caused this, we're only guessing. Here's my guess: Caused by using a registry cleaner.

What is the CPU and how much RAM does your computer have? Right click on the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties to get this information.
Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?
How large is your hard disk? How much free space on the disk?
Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp to Empty your Recycle Bin and Remove Temporary Internet Files. Also select Start, All Programs, accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp, More Options, System Restore and remove all but the latest System Restore point.

Hope this helps.

1. What version of Windows XP are you running? (Professional or not, what service pack, what is the date of the last updates you did, have you purposely not installed some fixes.) Probably not related to your problem but easy enough to get the information. 2. How much real memory? (Again, probably not a factor, but good to know.) 3. Does the problem happen each time you open My Computer or just when you open My Computer right after logging on? It is normal for there to be a delay the first time due to login stuff and pending anti virus update jobs and other automatic stuff happening when you first login. 4. Do you see the hour glass when your mouse is over the My Computer Window? This would indicate the computer is busy or My Computer is being delayed. 5. Do you see the hour glass any other places besides over the My Computer Window. This would indicate the computer is busy. 6. When My Computer finally displays stuff, how many entries are there and what are they? (I have one entry per partition, one for Control Panel, one for each local real printer, plus one for each explicitly shared directory tree, of which I have 5. This is 18 items total. If you have lots of shared directory tress or lots of local disks it MIGHT slow things down, but I expect you would need 100's before your noticed.) 7. What is displayed for each entry? (Just the icon, or are many details displayed. It might be possible that a detail is being asked for that a sick printer doesn't respond to.)

Hello,
Another question that may or may not help is, do you have a cd or dvd in your cd/dvd drive or drives? Sometimes if a cd or dvd drive is slow to read the contents of a disc, it may cause My Computer to be slow to report its contents until the cd/dvd drive(s) report their contents.
I hope this helps at least a little.
