Controlled access to media files
Wes 10/22/2008 9:11:01 PM
Is anyone restricting access to media based on ACL's or NTFS file
permissions? We're having issues. We do not want to use DRM - but just
restrict access to some files.

Running W2k3 server, WMS, with Cisco CDN (which may be part of the issue).

thanks!

Yes, you can do it. And it works just fine.
The problem you can encounter is using Silverlight, which doesn't
support ACL control, but using just Windows Media Player, it works
fine.

For silverlight scenarios, you need some additional workaround, but it
can be done, and it works for us, also just fine.

Thanks for the answer - what are you using to control access? Are you
putting the media into specific folders that you lock down, are you using the
publishing point?

Thanks.
