Windows XP - Defrag utility
"Basharat A. Javaid" <bjavaid[ at ]sbcglobal.net> 11/24/2008 5:59:05 AM
My hard drive's before & after defragmenting pictures looks the same - which
is terribly fragmented, with lots of red & green files and lots of white
spaces between the blue & other files.

What can I do to fully defrag the drive with the Windows' defragger? If
that is not possible, is there a third party defragger which will do a
better job?

You should be able to use the built in Windows Defragmentation utility
(which is just a sliced-down version of a commercially available product.)

However - if you want a freebie but a goodie...

Basharat

I would be interested in seeing a Disk Defragmenter report . Open Disk
Defragmenter and click on Analyse. Select View Report and click on Save
As and Save. Now find VolumeD.txt in your My Documents Folder and post a
copy. Do this before running Disk Defragmenter as it is more
informative.

Something to do which will improve performance.

Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp to
Empty your Recycle Bin and Remove Temporary Internet Files. Also
select Start, All Programs, accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp,
More Options, System Restore and remove all but the latest System
Restore point. Run Disk Defragmenter.

Hope this helps.

That's usually a case of not having enough free space on your drive
