Multiple instances problem
Terry Pinnell <terrypinDELETE[ at ]THESEdial.pipex.com> 12/30/2008 2:41:09 PM
I wonder if anyone here can help me fix a problem that's been annoying
me for a year or two please, even though it's not strictly a pure XP
issue?

I like to open JPG files with IrfanView so I have that set as my JPG
association in XP File Types. Then I use a facility in IrfanView to
open the file in any of 3 external editors, the first of which I've
specified as PaintShop Pro 8. But that always opens it with a new
instance of PSP 8, instead of just opening the file.

I have other programs (e.g. one of my music players, MediaMonkey) that
have a setting which limits them to a single instance, but sadly PSP 8
doesn't have that feature.

One thing I did try was writing my own macro to open the file from
IrfanView by identifying the full path and filename and pasting it
into XP Pro's Run box, like this:
"C:\Program Files\Jasc Software Inc\Paint Shop Pro 8\Paint Shop
Pro.exe" "C:\Docs\My Videos\MAGIX Exports\TestCalgary-Text01a.JPG"

.... but that opened a new instance of PSP 8 too!

That's SOP with PSP. In version X it's better in that it doesn't
actually start another instance, but it still goes thru the splash
screen etc. so it saves no time.
You can ask about the current rev on cnews.corel.com newsgroups. I
forget the latest rev, but it might have gone further with that
situation; can't hurt to check.
