Open Office and Photoshop hang ; GDi32

Well, it is back again. My X64 running on an AMD64 X2 4400 gets in
this mode where two programs hang: photoshop 6 and open office calc. I
installed open office 3 and it made no difference. This is not a
matter of software updates, since this problem mysteriously comes and
goes.

When photoshop hangs, it is in gdi32.dll. Here are the results from a
search on gdi32.dll
http://www.lazygranch.com/temp/gdi32.gif
Now I assume the only gdi32.dll that matters are located in c:\WINDOWS
\system32 and C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64

Now from
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948590/en-us
under "for all supported X64-based editions of WIndows XP
Professional, we have
Gdi32.dll 5.2.3790.4237
This matches the rev I have in the system32 directory.
However, I have a smaller version of the file in SysWOW64. Does this
make sense?

Once again, the problem went away.
