Hibernate no longer operative Pieter_R_Ned 10/21/2008 7:31:01 PM Over the last few days I seem to have lost access to the “hibernate” mode. Below I list three phenomena which taken together mean I cannot use Hibernate any more. My working hypothesis is that a recent automatic Windows Update has caused this annoying state of affairs. My system is a Dell Dimension 8400 runnig Windows XP Pro SP3. Hibernate is enabled in Control Panel|Power Options. The malfunctioning shows in the following manners a. In Control Panel|Performance and maintenance|Power Options, attempting to save any power scheme I receive an error screen headed “Power Policy Manager unable to set policy” and with body text “Indicates two revision levels are incompatible”; b. In Power Options|Advanced tab I have set the option “When I press the power button” to Hibernate; this has always worked well but since around this weekend pressing the power button produces no action at all c. When pressing Start|Turn off computer” a screen”is shown offering three option icons (Standby, turn off, Restart) the first of which always changed to Hibernate as the mouse cursor was moved over it; now the Hibernate option is no longer offered. I suspect a/b/c have a common cause. Suggestions anyone? Thanks in advance

Don't know which particular ones, I just updated them all. If you press the shift key, the standby option changes to hibernate. That's the only option I have to be able to hibernate the computer.
