desktop appearance question jdp75 12/12/2008 6:45:01 AM After powering up computer and selecting user, only the wallpaper appears free of all icons, status bars, tool bars, start button, etc... Only the pointer appears. By hitting ctrl + alt + delete, windows task manager pops up and it is how I can run programs. How do I get my desktop to appear normally??

Sounds like your ntuser file in your profile directory has become corrupted. The best this I can think of to remedy this situation would be to boot up in safe mode and logon with the Administrator account. To boot into safe mode start tapping the F8 key when the computer first starts up. This will bring up a menu with several options, just use the arrow keys and highlight safe mode or safe mode with networking. Once you logged on in safe mode with the Administrator account, create a new user account. Then copy your files from the old user account to the newly created account.
