How to lock the position of desktop icons
RichardC 12/13/2008 3:20:00 PM
Running Windows XP Home Edition. When I load Windows XP the desktop icons
are automatically arranged on the left edge of the desktop, not where I
previously placed them. Is there a way to lock the placement of desktop
icons when I have the desktop arranged how I like it so that windows does not
change there position?

I have right clicked on the desktop and made sure none of the options under
arrange desktop icons is checked.

Right click any open area on the desktop. Click Arrange Icons By, and
click to lock the desktop items. I think ...

Rearrangement (from the left, in columns) is "Auto Arrange."
The OP needs to uncheck this item, reached by Right Click
on empty Desktop and menu under "Arrange Icons." To
preserve a custom arrangement, none of the next options should
be checked.

I'm not sure why your icons move to the left edge if nothing is checked
under Arrange Icons By. I have Align To Grid and Show Desktop Icons
checked.

See if this will work for you:

http://www.midiox.com/ Select Desktop Restore.

If I understand you correctly then the answer is No. Some icons will default to
their original place.

You can right click on Desktop and put a checkmark to Align to Grid. It might help a
bit before arranging your icons

Example. Recycle Bin, My Computer, IE and etc
