Networking Dilemma
Craig 12/8/2008 7:15:02 PM
First of all, please forgive me if I'm posting this question in the wrong
location.

I have a small network consisting of two XP Pro machines and a file server
currently running Windows Server 2003. After backing up everything I want to
reformat and rebuild each of the three machines. Where do you suggest I
begin...Workstations or Server? I can see pros and cons to either one.
Thank you.

Unless the server is a domain controller it doesn't really make any
difference.

Thank you. Now, a very fundemental question...what are the advantages of
setting up a domain vs. non-domain. I don't mean to ask for a full
networking class here. If I understood correctly my network was set up as a
domain to begin with but quite honestly, I'm not sure it still is. (I know,
I'm showing my lack of networking knowledge here but am eagar to learn.)

Dave, one last question if I may. If I set up a domain, which do you
recommend I begin with, Workstations or Server? Thank you.

I'd build the server first.
