I recently buiilt a new system and am now ready to install OEM Vista Home
Prem SP1 x64. When I went out to get the OPK, it appears I need to
download a 1.43 GB file. Is this correct? Will the install work without
the OPK?

You don't need it.
Just set your Boot Order to Media Drive(DVD) 1st, reboot with Disk in it,
etc, etc.
And it might be an idea, being 64bit, to just install with 2G of RAM;
install rest later..

A few people that have posted re installing 64bit(not all), have had problems
when RAM has been 4G or above.
You can try it with whatever amount you have; and if you strike probs
installing, that is a maybe workaround.
Sometimes posters have had probs thru high-end Graphics Cards.
I was trying to cover the worst scenarios!

OK, I may run into those issues as I have 8 GB of ram and ATI 4850 Video
Card. I will give it a shot and see how it goes, if it fails or runs into
problems, I will decrease the ram first and then determine video card.

One additonal question. If I install Vista x32 today, can I upgrade to x64
or do I need to perform a new install?

Hi,
The issue isn't the amount of ram, it's the timing involved when all 4
memory slots are filled in some motherboards. The capacity (2GB, 4GB, 8GB,
etc.) isn't the problem. When all 4 slots are filled, the motherboard timing
can be slower than the installation routine expects and may cause
unresolvable faults during setup. The solution is to use only 2 of 4 slots
during setup, then reinstall the additional 2 afterwards.

The install of the software went fine without any errors during the
installation. I did follow the two bank memory recommendation. Now I am
onto troubleshooting 3 areas based on Device Manager errors.
1. SM Bus Controller Code 28
2. VGA Code 10
3. Network Adapters - Code 10
I am reading through my motherboard manual to see if I missed something
there and then onto VGA manual and then on Microsoft site. If anyone has any
ideas, please let me know.

A CD should have come with the Mothboard, containing those Drivers.

It did and everything is up running smooth so far. The score for the system
is 5.9 and I have tested several things so far and everything appears to be
working in fine fashion.

One thing, don't get your Hardware Drivers Updates from MS.
Ge them form the Mobo's or particular Hardware Manufacturer.
If your Windows Experience Index score is 5.9, that is the Max.
