MMC.exe cannot find OLEACC.dll
SQL DBA 12/28/2008 11:29:00 PM
I am a SQL Server DBA and I have a home server I use for independent projects
and testing. I am having a huge problem as something is wrong with my
registry/windows installation.

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2 and it has run fine for over a year and all
of a sudden a few weeks ago, I get an error when I try to open "Services" or
"Event Viewer". Also, when I double click Add/Remove Programs it just does
nothing. I assume the registry has been compromised but this is out of my
realm of knowledge.

When I attempt to open Serivces Or Even Viewer I get the following error
message

mmc.exe - Unable to locate component
The application has failed to start because oleacc.dll was not found.
Re-installing the application may fix the problem.

I am at a loss as where to start tracking this down if I can't see the event
viewer. I at one time had AVG Free installed as well as SpyBot search and
destroy which is about the time this started.

WHat I am looking for is a way to track this down without hacing to
re-install the OS because I have everything just like I want it with my SQL
installations and they work fine as does the web server.

Any help would be greatly apreciated.

This really does not have anything to do with Media Center which is focus of
this newsgroup.

However, You can backup your SQL installation to an External hard Drive,
There are plenty of USB hard drives that you can use to backup your files
to.

You should be able to backup the configure files for your SQL databases and
the Databases themselves.
