This really does not have anything to do with Media Center which is focus of this newsgroup.
However, You can backup your SQL installation to an External hard Drive, There are plenty of USB hard drives that you can use to backup your files to.
You should be able to backup the configure files for your SQL databases and the Databases themselves.
