autostart encoder
Mark_B 10/17/2008 6:08:01 PM
This was mistakenly cross posted in another forum that is probably not for
this question.

I am running XP 64 OS. I have Windows Media Encoder for 64 installed and can
run encoder interactively.

I want to autostart encoder with encoding started. (/start in command line
doesn't work, just starts encoder but doesn't start encoding).

I downloaded SDK but no encoder library is registered in com for adding
references in VS.

I believe I need to install or register the encoder library but I cannot
figure out how.

You need to add a Startup profile as well as the /start switch. Kinda
obvious but the encoder has no idea what or how to encode until it's
provided with settings

You do that by specifying a .wme filename which is accessible to the
user account you're trying to start the encoder with.

You have to install the SDK - Downloading it isn't sufficient.

You're saying there's no reference in the COM section in VS ? Which VS
version do you have, and how are you testing that (step by step)?

Thanks for your reply,

Unless there is more to installing the SDK than double-clicking
"WMEncoderSDK.exe" and responding as required to the installer UI, I actually
did run the SDK install. I am running VS 2008 and I was finally able to get
the encoder library com reference in place by browsing to the image in
"C:\WMSDK\WMEncSDK9\samples\C#\remadmin\WMEWebSvc\bin". I assume a good
install would have made a an image in SYSWOW64. Shouldn't a C# application
run anyway as long the reference is present? It's hard for me know by running
test code because I was not able to find a sample application that simply
sets up and runs an application that starts a broadcast encoding session. I
am not confident in my ability to write working code with these encoder
applications yet. (I was able to get the encoder UI to appear in code, but I
was not able to noodle out how to make it run a working broadcast.)

I did make a batch file that runs a wme broadcast session using the
following: %windir%\system32\cmd.exe /c start /abovenormal wmenc.exe
"%userprofile%\my documents\test2.wme" /start. Do you know where I can find a
working C# sample that does this and only this?
