drive not recognized by windows
kah 10/14/2008 7:27:02 PM
Running win xp pro and have a WD 80 GB hard drive for my primary drive. Just
added a WD 250GB hard drive for storage. Jumpers for the 80gb are set as
master and the 250gb is set as slave. Bios recognizes both drives but
windows does not. How do I get windows to recognize the new drive so that I
can format it and begin to use it. Thanks

You may need first to partition the new HDD with
FDISK (probably as NTFS), then use FDISK to
create one or more logica drives in that partition,
then FORMAT the new drive(s.) Windows Help
system ought to have some clues for you.

Right click on My Computer, either the desktop icon (if you have one).
or on the Start menu. In the pop-up menu select the Manage menu item,
and when the Computer Management window opens click on Disk Management.
Does your new drive appear there? If so, you can then set up a
partition and format the drive and be able to use it.

I use Firefox because I want to use software that complies

Use Disk Management to prepare the disk
