Laptop screen goes blank upon recovery from Sleep Mode
civ2ru 11/17/2008 3:44:00 AM
First off, it's a SONY VAIO VGN-FZ180E and I'm running Vista 32-bit.

In the last couple of months, I've started encountering an error - the
screen goes blank upon recovery from Sleep Mode. Don't remember exactly when
it started, and couldn't use System Recovery to roll back that far anyway.
The only workaround I've found is either restarting or closing/re-opening the
lid. The "Turn off monitor" in "Power Options" is set to "Never", by the way.
And my nVIDIA graphics card driver and ACPI driver seem to be current.

Any suggestions on how to fix this? Thank you so much!

Sleep mode is not very reliable in Vista and use on laptops is dubious at
best compared to shut down/reboot.
As you can see Vista restore points are not reliably created either despite
all the disc thrashing when your machine is idle; you need to periodically
shut down and pray there will be an intact system restore point when you
really need it.

Thank you very much for your input! I have found that the problem doesn't
occur if I put my computer to sleep through the power button rather than
closing the lid. Have no clue why.
