Domain Controller "Status" is "not available" at new W2K8 DC Server
"Wolfgang Schlicker" <QuarksUndCo[ at ]gmx.de> 12/26/2008 8:17:28 PM
Hi NG,

I've added a new Domain Controller (on a new W2k8 64bit server) to my
exisiting DC's (all W2K3 32bit servers).
After recommended "adpreps" and adding the AD DS role and the DNS role in
server manager, then executing dcpromo.exe and last moving the 5 FSMO roles
(RID,PDC,Ifs, SM, DNM) to the new W2k8 DC, this all works fine.
But when then popup the Dialog "change domain controller..." in "Server
Manager-> Roles->Active Directory Domain Services->Active Directory User and
Computers" the status of the new DC is "not available". The status of all
other W2K3 DC's are "online"!
How can I change the status of the new W2k8 DC to "online"?
Calling dcdiag results with "no errors"

Regards,
Wolfgang

PS: could this be a DNS problem?

Hello Wolfgang,

You can ignore this. I do not have an explanation why, but on my systems
it is the same. The DC where the server manager is running shows itself as
unavailable and all other DC's as online, doens't matter if it uses itself
or the one of the other listed DC's as connected DC in AD UC. This also applies
to AD users and computers, AD sites and services and AD domains and trusts.
So this belongs not only to server manager.

If i use a member server with RSAT installed it shows all DC's as online.

Best regards

Hello Wolfgang,

BTW, the next time please do not multipost the same question, use crossposting
with a newsreader like Outlook express. So you can add more then one NG and
all answers are visible to anybody doesn't matter which NG is used.
