New install problem
"Milos Puchta" <puchta[ at ]fel.cvut.cz> 10/5/2008 7:18:42 AM
Hi

I have removed old server with WSUS 3
and installed new one with the same name.
Then I installed WSUS 3 SP1 on new server.
I have mentioned that there was communication
among clients and server on port 8350, but
the list of clients on WSUS server has not been
populated with client's names. I let all GPO the
same as in the previous installation which is
client "oriented" and for two groups

Any idea how to make the WSUS work
as expected?

Regards
Milos

Is the new server able to update the IP in DNS?
If you use MS DNS server in secure mode when you build a new server it gets a
new SID and often a different IP. DNS will not let it update the name because
the previous DNS record is owned by the old server.

There are 10 types of people, those that understand binary and those that don't.

Before I have joined this server to the Active Domain,
I had rename the old one and changed its address,
in the hope that this would suffice to do...

TIA

Being pretty sure about proper settings
is not always a good ... A close look
revealed missing setting in the
Options > Computers
.... namely the GPO control by clients.

The first thing to check here is the single most common issue with systems
after SP1 has been applied...

SP1 has a nasty habit of failing to restore the /selfupdate virtual
directory.

Please verify that both the Default Web Site and the WSUS Administration
website have virtual directories named 'selfupdate'.

If not, you should recreate them, point their pathnames to C:\Program
Files\Update Services\selfupdate,
and then enable Anonymous Access.
