Black screen while re-connecting RDP session
Sujay_yogi 12/23/2008 9:55:01 PM
When I connect to a disconnected session on a server with a user account, my
screen goes black and the server is not responding to any keyboard signals
(Ctrl+Alt+Delete / Ctrl+Alt+End). I could see only the Server version at
right bottom of the screen and the mouse works but the session doesn't come
back alive. I have to kill the session and lose all my data. The user account
is not an Administrator on that server and it is member of Remote Desktop
Users.

The server is Win2k3 server, standard Edition with Service Pack 2 which is
configured as default remote administration mode with 2 allowed connections.
The 'Restrict each user to one session' is set to 'No' in the Server settings
under Terminal Service Configuration.

I have been searching for solution for this problem but couldn't find a good
one.

This might help:

"A black screen may appear while logon by using remote desktop"

I find that KB article less than helpfull. It mentions "MTU" size,
without giving an explanation what it is, nor a solution.

For a better answer, check the TS FAQ at:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/en-
us/terminal/terminal_faq.mspx

Under "Connectivity":

Q. Sometimes when I connect to my terminal server, I see a black
screen. Why does this occur?
A. This typically occurs if there is a device between the client
and the server that is receiving packets but not passing them on.
One way around this problem is to change the MTU size for the
network adapter that is being used as a terminal server connection
to clients.

Ethernet uses a maximum MTU size of 1500. You can start with 500
and then slowly move up until you notice the problem to find the
correct value to set.

And here's how you find the best MTU size for your network:
