Server 2008 dcpromo
Somchai 12/12/2008 8:17:01 AM
I may be in the wrong forum with Server 2008 however, I cannot find anything
2008. My problem is that when I want to promote the server it always gives
me an error saying that the IP is set to Dynamic. I clearly have set a Fix
IP 192.168.0.1 and DNS 192.168.0.1. For some reason it doesn't accept the
DNS. Where do I go wrong?

Any clues would be appreciated.

Hello Somchai,

Do you more then one NIC, then disable the other's that are not configured/used.

Only one NIC. I installed updates from MS, tried without Updates, tried
everything. No luck! I have set static IP to 192.168.0.1, Subnet
255.255.255.0, Primary DNS 192.168.0.1 and I always get the Error.

THIS COMPUTER HAS DYNAMICALLY ASSIGNED IP ADDRESS(ES)

I have no idea anymore. Lost me a whole day already and don't get any
further.

If you have assigned a static IP address, then it is safe to ignore the
message. Take a look at this Technet page:

Just an update: you can safely ignore the message if you have IPV4 static
address assigned. To make the message disappear, you should also assing a
static IPV6 address or disable IPV6 on that interface.

I have assigned a static IP of cause. What you are saying is to ignore the
message, promote the Domain and then setup the DNS manually? Am I correct?

Thanks

Re: Server 2008 dcpromo
joc 12/12/2008 12:25:00 PM
To quote from the Technet article that I referenced:

"You may receive a warning message stating 'This computer has dynamically
assigned IP address(es)'. You must ensure that the server has a statically
assigned IPv4 address. However, you may still receive this message, due to
the fact that IPv6 is enabled and set to DHCP by default. As long as you have
a statically assigned IPv4 address, it is safe to ignore the message and
continue.

You may receive a delegation warning. It is safe to ignore the message and
continue. "

The warning will be due to IPV6 not having a statically assigned address. To
get rid of the warning you could assign an IPV6 static address or remove IPV6
by un-checking the box "Internet Protocol Version 6 TCP/IPv6" in the
Networking properties page of your NIC. If you do neither of these, it is
still safe to ignore the warning and continue.

FYI, the problem came from IPv6. It is solved now.

Thanks
