Problems with demoting w2k3 dc from domain with new w2k8 dc
wizard[ at ]zykes.com 12/27/2008 8:55:46 PM
we had a domainserver (w2k3) with exchange 2003 installed, now we have
installed a new server with w2k8 with excahgen2007 in the same domain,
everything has been moved over to the new server. FSMO Roles also. Our
problem now is that when we try to demote the w2k3 server it says that
it cannot find the domain it is trying to demote from. We have tried
to turn off the GC on the w2k3 server, but then the EX2k7 don't start
all roles has been removed from the w2k3 server except AD, we have
even uninstalled exchange 2003 from it. The hardware on the w2k3
server is about to break down, so we need to find a way to demote it
safely.

Hello wizard[ at ]zykes.com,

Did you make the 2008 also GC and DNS server? Important, especially if Exchange
runs on a DC, which is a NOT recommended configuration.

Best regards
