Digit as Dns Entry
Adnan <adnankmk[ at ]gmail.com> 11/7/2008 9:36:04 AM
Hi,
I have installed Windows 2003 Server as my Domain Controller and as
DNS Server. I want to register my dns entry as 251.com against the
particular IP address. but when I add in the dns it did not record it
as dns entry.

Is this a record you were trying to manually create or should it have been
done by a machine called 251???
James.

DNS supports numeric characters
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909264
The questions here are what you are trying to do, please be more specific
and provide more information what are you trying to achieve.
If I am not mistaken you have domain called yourdomain.local on one of your
servers which is DC/DNS. You are trying to have DNS entry (A record) perhaps
as 251.com in the DNS name space yourdomain.local and you cannot do it.
Simply because your DNS is not authoritative for the DNS name space, this is
why you need forwarders.
Note: I am speculation from what I understood from your post

Oz Ozugurlu Thanks for replying.

I have my domain abc.edu.pk I want to host a new website in my
webserver in my domain. in want to set the name of my new hosted site
is 251.abc.edu.pk.
I added 251 in my dns against the particular ip address. But when i
ping the 251.abc.edu.pk it did not ping the particular ip against the
given dns record. It is a digit entry. i am Using windows server 2003
