Whole zones were deleted after scavenging
LaurenM3335 11/5/2008 5:04:15 PM
We enabled scavenging on our DNS server yesterday and some reverse lookup
zones were deleted (not just the records, but the whole zone). Is that
possible? I thought they were manually created and would not get deleted
even if there was nothing in them? Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hi there, no scavenging should not do this at all. Have you checked the DNS
event log to see if that containe any pertinent information??
James.

Hello LaurenM3335,

Scavenging should never delete the complete zone. Never hear that, zones
you have to delete by hand or maybe with script. So check the event viewer
if something is there to find or talk to your other admins.

That's not possible, as already pointed out by James and Meinolf. What can
do that is if with AD integrated zones, on one DC the replication scope may
have been set to the DomainNC, and on another, into a different replication
scope. Another reason possibly that one DC has an AD integrated zone, and on
another the same zone was created as a Secondary using zone transfer from
the first, but because it is AD integrated, the Secondary will get removed.
