Joining a 2003 server in a workgroup to Existing Domain

SBS server ------ workgroup server
(bot servers on same subnet)

We have a SBS 2003 server set up as domain controller on domain X. All users are here.

We have another 2003 server which the Engineers would not allow to bring on board however they have to do so now. The server is on a workgroup called Domain. With server name as Server1. This server has a MYSQL server for engineering data. A specific Client based application access this SQL server for data and authentication. There is no other role this server plays.

We have to bring this Server from workgroup into the existing Domain X. Can some one point us in the right direction? The data on the engineering server and the application is critical to the engineers and so we want to be careful. We do have backup of this server.

All servers are on the same private subnet.

Machines connecting to both servers are XP professional with SP2 -- gtech ------------------------------------------------------------------------ gtech's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/gtech.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/server-migration/1088768.htm http://forums.techarena.in

As a domain member the server gains authentication from the domain and group
policy. Local accounts to the server will remain as will local profiles. In
the traditional method of joining the domain little else should change. If
you use the SBS methods group policy and WSUS (if installed) will make
additional changes.

Good and verified backups are essential, as always.
