WSUS 3 on W2K8 RODC..
Rita Clegg 11/24/2008 11:31:02 PM
Does anybody know if WSUS 3/IIS will be supported on a Windows 2008 RODC? I
have 6 remote locations that require a remote WSUS server because of
bandwidth issues. The first of the 6 locations is scheduled for an upgrade
in March of 2009 and we are looking at installing an RODC in this location.
I'm working on our upgrade plan so was wondering the feasibility of combining
RODC and WSUS.

Thank you.

I'm not aware of any reason why WSUS3 would not run on a Win2008 RODC.

Sounds like a reasonable plan to me.

We plan on doing the same thing next year for our branch office. You should
be all set.

Create on a writable DC the groups "SQLServer2005MSFTEUser$Servername$Microsoft##SSEE" and "SQLServer2005MSSQLUser$Servername$Microsoft##SSEE" Insert your servername where it says servername. Once I had these groups created the install worked. Make sure you have the pre-reqs for IIS 7.0 on server2008. Also need to install Report Viewer. Good luck.

Good observation Frankie! I'd forgotten that the WID needs to create "local"
groups and on a DC it's going to try to create those as Domain Groups if
they don't already exist.

Excellent note. This issue probably warrants a KB article. I'll bounce the
note up to the WSUS team and see if I can get a KB article in the works.
