Ok, so I have been banging my head off of my monitor on this one. As such I am throwing this out to all of you in the hopes that someone will have an answer.
Problem: When using a BOOT file to load zones and start DNS if there are duplicate zones in the file the DNS Server service will "stop unexpectedly". Remove the duplicate and the service start fine.
Why is this a problem? -- I am automating the update if my black hole DNS zones. I download the latest file from malwaredomains.org. Then kill the zones reg key and recreate it. Once done the current boot file gets copied to a backup dir and the new one gets moved in restart DNS and that's it. Unfortunately the latest boot file from Malware Domains has 2 duplicates in it so I am back to manually updating.
I am hoping that there is a reg key or service start param that will ignore duplicates.
-- Also, if you are not familiar with black hole DNS you should read up. Very nice for protecting users form themselves.
Thanks to all!
