Question about dns scavenging and dhcp
MyGposts <mygposts[ at ]gmail.com> 11/20/2008 7:11:43 PM
Have set up dns scavenging on one of 3 dns servers using active
directory-integrated zones.
We have set no-refresh interval for 5 days, refresh interval for 5
days and we have set the dhcp lease duration for 5 days and clicked th
box next to "Scavenge all stale resource records" and the netx prompt
"apply these settings to the existing Active Directory-integrated
zones."

Should they all match the same number of days?

If we later need to shorten the dhcp lease time, do we need to also
shorten the the refresh, no-refresh or both to match?

We also set the scavenging period to 5 days. So, everything is set
for 5 days.

Jump to the "Aging and Scavenging" part.

I would suggest to keep it at the defaults. If too short, records may
disappear before their time and cause issues, especially if created by DHCP
deafult lease period. That article Deji posted. goes into it in depth.

The following is additional reading on the subject:

Using DNS Aging and ScavengingAging and scavenging of stale resource records
are features of Domain Name System (DNS) that are available when you deploy
your server with primary zones.
