iPhone DNS issue
"Jasper Recto" <jrecto99[ at ]yahoo.com> 12/8/2008 7:32:52 PM
I have a problem with the iPhone receiving my corporate email when I'm in my
office because of an issue with the active sync push feature.

I looked up on the Apple website and this is what they said:

"When roaming between home and office networks with Wi-Fi enabled, "push"
may stop working if your company's Exchange ActiveSync server has a
different IP address for intranet and Internet clients. Make sure the DNS
for your network returns a single, externally-routable address to the
Exchange ActiveSync server for both intranet and Internet clients. This is
required so the device can use the same IP address for communicating with
the server when both types of connections are active."

Can somebody explain to my what DNS entry I need to make to allow this to
work. I don't quite understand on how to make a entry that is both
externally routable for both intranet and Internet clients.

Thanks!
Jasper

Your Exchange server has a URL of "Mail.domain.com"
Your device has that URL configured and can sync over the
Internet/other company network, whatever.
So, when you go into the office and use your own corporate wireless
LAN there must also be a "mail.company.com" that translates to an
internal IP address.

Mark,

One more question.
It says that I need an "externally-routable address to the Exchange server
for both intranet and Internet clients so the device can use the same IP
address for communicating with the server when both types of the connections
are active"

From outside our company, 'mail.company.com' references an external IP
address where inside the company it references an internal IP address. Does
this statement mean that I need to make an entry so that the internal IP
matches the external IP?

Thanks!
Jasper

That's all you need.Just make sure the names and IPs say the right
things in the right places.
