w2k3,it resolve by dns server first or lmhost file overwrite it?

I have two w2k3 server which is intially setup as workgroup server and has
been configured lmhost to resolved ip to name. Right now we just have a dns
server which will do the job but I would like to know will the dns server do
the job by overwriting the lmhost that have been doing the job all the
while?I don't really want to make any changes on the lmhost file as I have my
own reason.

Your lmhosts file will not be overwritten. However, I don't know why you'd
need it - or why you'd use lmhosts instead of hosts, if it's just IP to
hostname resolution you needed. Your hosts file is to DNS as your lmhosts
file is to WINS.

You might also consider setting up AD if you aren't using it already.
