How was the SBS domain controller removed? Did you demote it using DCPROMO, or manually unplugged it? If manually unplugged or blown away, you may also need to do a Metadata Cleanup.

Also follow Meinolf's suggestions to remove it from Sites, Nameservers tab in DNS properties, and anywhere in the SRV records. You can also cleanup the SRVs by performing the following on each DC:
delete the system32\config\netlogon.dns and dnb files. ipconfig /registerdns net stop netlogon net start netlogon
