Fully Qualified domain name/host not resolving??
Rob... 10/29/2008 2:16:00 PM

Hello all... i recently setup windows server 2008 standard. All seems to
have gone ok (except network card issues, HPdl180 g5) I setup DNS server as
per the normal recommended way. Now my weird issue is i cannot seem to
pin/resolve the fully qualified name of any host, only the hostname its self
works... IE; if i ping fred.domain.local i get cannot find host, but if i
ping fred it works??

Any idea or did i do something wrong... please let me know if more info is
need i shall post what i can....

Thanks to all in advance..

Just a note, whether its static or dynamic, i get the same result, however i
did find a couple of hosts where i was able to ping by fully qualified name.
I did a ipconfig /flushdns and tried again... some work and some do not...
all of these hosts have been active for at least 3 weeks now...

What exactly is the "....as per the normal recommended way" you used?

Rob
Why these are different?

Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : interhub.local
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : domaim.local

if I am not mistaken , The connection-specific DNS suffix is a DNS suffix
that is assigned to an adapter

your primary primary DNS suffix should used in name resolution

When you perform forward lookup or reverse lookup for
" workstation1.yourdomain.com" does this error out?

do you have A record and PTR record for this workstation in the DNS?
