PING companyname.com resolves to DNS servers all over the WAN, not just local
andymarbles <andymarbles[ at ]googlemail.com> 11/19/2008 2:56:55 PM
Why not just the local ones?

In UK DNS settings are all 10.44.x.x servers. In U.S all 10.1.x.x
etc..

From a UK workstation, we ping companyname.com it resolves to DNS
servers all over the WAN - some which haven't been active for ages.

If we then ipconfing /flushdns and try again, a different random
server is resolved.

Why is this?

Any help gratefully received!

thanks

Andy

Thank you..

I'm still a little confused why some of the ip addresses resolved are
dead and have been for many months. Any way to clean it up a little,
at least?

Andy
