DNS with a VPN
Tim 11/21/2008 1:01:01 AM
Our company is having trouble with DNS forward entries as Host A records.

Problem is specifically the remote VPN workstations XPPro will authenticate
to the network and a DNS host A is either created or already present. They
can disconnect and reconnect later in the day with a different IP address
from DHCP and the DNS forwarder Host A record does not update with the new ip
address so name resolution does not work.

Can someone offer a recommendation on how to properly set this up so I can
have name resolution for remote clients when they reconnect VPN to the office?

Thanks in Advance
Tim

What kind of VPN - VPN client software?

What about a batch file login script that runs ipconfig /registerDNS?

I ended up tearing into the Firewall device and forced it to use our
internal DHCP instead of the address pool assigned by the Firewall Device.

This forces DNS to use the one from the Win2003 Server and updated the DNS
record accordingly.

Thanks again for the Idea
