AMD Agesa - what sort of critter is this?
"Tony Sperling" <tony.sperling[ at ]dbREMOVEmail.dk> 6/5/2007 11:10:12 AM
Hi,

I just found a BIOS update to my MB (Asus M2N32). It lists support for Agesa
and I managed to find info that indicates this is about integrating some
sort of BIOS plug-in technology when developing new BIOS code - can anybody
here make a guess (educated or not) if this will be usefull to me or to my
machine?

I intend to flash it anyway since there is enhanced memory support as well,
I just don't like putting things in there that I don't know what it's there
for.

Thanks, that was more on target than what I had found, just one page of
hits - I'm somewhat wiser as to what it is, I stll cannot say if my machine
will benefit from it. And now I need to know what Aptio is. I think, I'll
drop Asus or someone a note and give them a chance to explain themselves -
Gee, I'm so nosy!

Tony:
From what I have read, APTIO is AMI's nickname for its EFI compatible system.
EFI is sorta become the replacement of current BIOSes.
BIOS is out, EFI is in.
Intel promotes EFI. Apple is the early adopter.

Oh, that's interesting. It's been a while since I saw EFI being mentioned, I
half thought it was being phased out before anybody actually got to see what
it was all about. This will certainly warrant a bit of scrutinizing. Thanks
a lot, Carlos!
