How do you make IE 7 64-bit Default?
NpGreg04 5/6/2007 4:52:01 PM
I found out how to make Windows Media Player 64 Default:
http://www.windows-now.com/blogs/chris123nt/archive/2006/10/10/WMP-on-Vista-x64.aspx

Based on how that guy did it, is it possbile now to make IE 7 64-bit default?

There is, and it is a similar procedure, but I can't remember the URL.
If I find it, I'll post it.

You're correct. I have seen how to make the 64-bit IE as
the default, but there also many disadvantages to it at this
time. To start with Windows Update is not programmed to
work in IE 64, only IE 32. Also, there are virtually no
plug ins for IE 64; no Flash, no Java, no QuickTime, no
ActiveX, and so on. So if you want a browser that gives you
the option to use these, IE 64 won't do it!

I've never seen a need for Flash. There are other formats for videos,
so I don't need QuickTime. Java and ActiveX pose an unnecessary
security risk, so I feel better without them.

I'm still looking for the site.

Didn't it involve a Registry Key? Anyhow, I've solved this by having the
Quick Launch Icon point to the 32bit and the Desktop Icon point to the 64bit
version, although I'm still on IE6.

Tony. . .
