CD/DVD no autorun fix
Carlos 6/21/2007 12:17:34 AM
Here's the story (Vista x64)
Both CD and DVD burners would not autorun.
Windows explorer was not even able to show any files on both drivers though
I could easily browse them with ZTreeWin (a file manager).
Nero could burn with both burners successfully.
CD's/DVD's could be read on other PC's or DVD player, but nothing could be
read/autorun on my PC.
I tried disabling and later on re-enabling autorun in Control Panel with no
results.
No upperfilters or lowerfilters to delete in the Registry.
All the alchemy, sorcery and known black magic did not work.
This is what worked for me:
Open the Registry.
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom
The Autorun value was in 0 (autorun = disabled).
I switched it to 1.
Rebooted and presto!
Autorun is working again, Windows explorer reads my CD's and DVD's.
Please take into acount that Control Panel always indicated that Autorun was
enabled.
Hope this helps everybody.
Carlos

Just wondering.... did you try turning OFF autorun in control panel and
then rebooting followed by turning it ON in control panel and then
rebooting again? That should NOT be necessary but I'm curious as to if
it'll work.

What make me curious is that I *think* setting autorun in control panel
*should* make a registry change and I know that rebooting loads a new
registry with any changes made to it which is why you had to reboot
after manually changing the registry.

Something else I'm wondering... if you turn autorun off in control
panel now, will it go off? If so, can you turn it back on w/o editing
the registry????

Just curious and now that it's working I'm sure you've got better
things to do with your time but I can't help wondering..... ;-)

Yes, it would be interesting to know - but really, XP x64 had trouble
remembering configuration changes all along, I always wondered if they ever
reached the registry at all, but I, and the average user wouldn't know what
value to look for and under what key. The reg. is a maze and not everyone
knows Carlos. Good thing too, what Carlos? Would be tiring at the end of the
day, I'm sure.

If you ever wanted to create your own .REG files, lookie here:
