how to uninstall security updates
TA 4/24/2007 3:32:01 AM
Downloaded several Microsoft security updates. In the middle of the update
downloads the system crashed. How should I proceed to remove the updates. I
can go into safe mode to find the log but I don't know how to uninstall the
updates. The computer will start up & displays all icons but only getting
the hourglass figure when trying to click on anything. Essentially the
computer is locked up. I've erased all the Temp files but new ones keep
populating the temp files folder. I also deleted cookies & ofline content
under internet options. Please help. Thanks.

Try starting with Last Known Good Configuration on the Boot Options screen.
It is the same screen you use to get Safe Mode.

Thanks for the idea - that was my 1st move. I tried that immediately after
the freeze up but it unfortunately didn't work. I also tried to restore the
system as of a date I knew was good but that didn't work either.

After dumping my temp folder several times & clearing my cookies & deleting
offline content the Last Known Good Configuration worked. Thanks for helping
out. I guess if you don't succeed try & try again. Thanks buddy.

Too late. Once you log in, even in safe mode, last known good is gone.

Actually, it's probably the cleaning out as much as anything. I'd take a
good snapshot before you add the updates again.

No, it worked for me after an Avast update screwed up windows explorer to
the point it kept breaking. This was just yesterday. I had logged in a
number of times before resorting to LKGC. LKGC still resolved the issue
satisfactorily.
