The 64 bit question...
Iconoclast 4/15/2007 9:32:00 AM
From the meager info I have gathered about my system (the two important
pieces being a Dell P965 BTX motherboard and intel Core 2 6700 CPU 2.66GHz),
it seems that I should be able to run Vista 64 bit. Can anyone here confirm
that? Not that I am looking to jump right into that, as I am already running
the 32bit Vista, but I am curious for future reference. My other question is,
should I decide to do that, how would you? Assuming the hardware can run it,
can you change Vista from 32 to 64? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Changing from 32-bit to 64-bit always requires a clean install. As far as I
know Intel isn't making any 32-bit chips at that level, but will leave that
to others.

Yes, you can run 64bit Vista. As for changing from 32-bit to 64-bit, you
need a fresh, clean install. And you need a license for 64-bit Vista. If you
bought your Vista from Dell, it`s the OEM version and you need a whole new
license. If you bought Vista Ultimate from retail, you already have
everything you need - a 64bit DVD and the same key works for both.
