Moving "My Photos" and "My Music"
cwturley 6/24/2007 9:15:01 PM
My PC is set up with a single 230gig HD that is partitioned into 30gig for
the OS and other programs and 200gig that is mainly used for editing video.
I have a significant of new music and photos that I want to put on the
system. With the XP Home OS on the 30gig partition, can I move the My Photos
and My Music folders and content to the larger partition so that the actual
music and photo files are saved there, but leave the OS on the smaller? If
so, how do I do that? Thanks in advance.

Hello:

Download Microsoft's TweakUI here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

You want the 147 KB version on the right - scroll down.

After installing, go to My Computer => Special Folders => select and
move to where you want.

I did as you instructed. When I open My Computer, I don't see anything like
"Special Folders" - just the regular ones there before.

When I tried to move My Photos, I get a msg that says it is part of the OS
and cannot be moved or renamed.

Hello agian,

When I say "My Computer" I'm referring to "My Computer" in TweakUI,
not on your desktop.

Just move the entire My Documents Folder. Right click the My Documents icon
and select Properties. Change the location to the drive letter of your other
partition i.e E\My Documents and click the Move button. Answer yes to any
other questions. This will store everything in the My Documents folder
including the My Music and My Photos ect. in the new location.
