need copying help pls
jm fay 7/9/2007 2:58:05 PM
We are unable to copy from word to a cd/ r in our d drive.
Keep getting errors whihc state ntoify adminstrator or make sure disc isnt
copy protected. We are using new discs but unable to copy and we have to so
we can take it elsewhere to print.

Not sure what is going on as we could before and we dont change any of the
settings but we are ahving problems now.

Thansk in advance for your help

Do you mean that you are trying to do a "Save As" from Word directly to the
CD? That won't work (AFAIK) unless the CD (and this will only work for a
CDRW) is formatted for packet writing. You need to save the document to your
HDD and then use whatever burning application you use to burn the file to
the CD.

"HDD" means "Hard Disk Drive". Is it ONLY Word files (or even just this
file) that you cannot copy to your CD Burner? Does this happen with any
file?

To do what you are asking requires special software called packet writing
software. Common programs include InCD from Ahead (Nero) Drag to Disc from
Roxio and DLA from Sonic. These programs run when the computer starts and
can format a CD-R/W so that it behaves like a giant floppy. Most packet
writing software requires that you use CD-R/W and not CD-R discs. Check to
ensure your blank disc says CD-R/W rewriteable and not just CD-R recordable.
