please help- in desperate need

I recently reinstalled Windows XP due to the fact that windows update
crashed my Nvidia network driver. Now I am in big trouble because My
documents is no longer accessible. What seems to be the cause is that I had
made My documents private and after the reinstall I've become a stranger to
myself. Is there a way around this problem?

Yes, take ownership of the files and folder as described in an article from
Help & Support.

When you reinstalled XP and created an account for yourself, XP gave it a
different Securtiy ID. As a username is merely an alias for the Security
ID, your account does not match the owner field in that folder.

You may need to change ownership, etc., with an adminstrator account.
