When I try to watch or listen to material off the net the clip starts
and stops continuously every few seconds. How can this be remedied?

Sorry my crystal ball has shorted out.

How about providing a bit more information, for example :-

What is the speed and type of processor in your computer?
How much RAM do you have?
How do you connect to the internet?
What is the speed of your internet connection?
What software are you using to watch/listen to material?

If your dial up connection is just via a normal telephone line then that is
most likely the bottle neck, even if you are using a 56Kb modem (which is
the fastest phone modem AFAIK).

If your local phone company provides an ADSL service (see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ADSL for an explaination) you will get a much
faster connection.

Even faster is "Broad band" which delivered via fibre optic cable ala cable
TV.

If you want to find out more about your computer and its components take a
