Are these all PS/2 mice and keyboards (the little round connector) or
USB mice and keyboards (the flat connector) or a combination of both?

If you are only trying mice and keyboards of one connector type, try the
other connector type.

If you need more help, please provide more details about your friend's
computer, its recent history, and what you've already tried. This link
will help you make your next post:

Here is the added information from your other post:

mouse
> that uses a usb and a green round port. neither will work.

1. Try with a normal PS/2 keyboard and mouse.
2. The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time
things worked and the time they didn't?
3. Give some information about the computer. Refer to this link for
details needed in your next post:

we have tried both usb and one wireless that was for both keyboard and mouse
that one was an usb and a round green one. we have tried rebooting, have
tried shutting down and disconnecting power and tried putting in cd
installation disk included with mouse. we can't work with the cd because the
mouse doesn't work. sorry I responded wrongly. thank you.

Having a little trouble posting? ;-)

Do as I said and post back with the answers and results:

1. Shut down the computer. Attach a plain vanilla PS/2 keyboard and a
plain vanilla PS/2 mouse. What happens?
2. Provide details previously asked for:

a. Computer information
b. Answer to First Question of Troubleshooting

Please take the time to read the information about making newsgroups
posts in the link I previously gave you. No one will want to make
numerous posts dragging the necessary answers out of you like pulling teeth.

It appears to be a type of bios virus. It has hit several computers in my
area.
I have not been involved in trying a fix but suggest it might need a new
bios chip or a "hot flash" from another computer. (Comp techs will
understand?)
Only other possible answer might be "cooked" PS2 ports on the ones I've
heard about.
My advice? Go looking for a virus that disables mouse & keyboard.

It's a very interesting catch but 1) this has nothing to do with the
BIOS; 2) this is a really old virus that has been around since 2003. If
the OP's friend had any sort of antivirus on the machine, you'd think it
would have caught it. Of course, the OP's friend might not be running an
av at all. We simply don't know and we can't guess. We haven't been
provided enough information from the OP to come to any conclusions at
this point, let alone determine if this is software (a virus) or hardware.
