I suggest no one try to install UBUNTU OS or any of those OS. I tried to install UBUNTU last night based on professional instruction found online. Ubuntu has a feature which writes into your MBR (master boot record). When I rebooted system to try and access one of the dual systems (Ubuntu and WinXP), I was alarmed that Windows would not boot. I followed instructions to the letter found online.
Next I tried to restore my Windows. Mind you I do computer repairs. I was alarmed to discover that Ubuntu had scripted my computer's MBR. This means that even if I deleted the Ubuntu partition, the MBR was still damaged. I could not fix it with FDISK. FDISK would not write to partition as it normally does. Ubuntu screwed up system big time. Lucky I had the original laptop restoration DVD which fixed the hardrive. I do not need to mention that Acronis did not restore my backed up XP system, it failed as well.

never had that problem either.......You don't fix the MBR with FDisk - if you'd done some proper research prior to your very hasty actions you would have discovered that.....

Plus the fact that MILLIONS of people have quite happily dual-booted with Ubuntu and XP......

It doesn't destroy the MBR, it simply dislodges the Windows boot loader and replaces it with Grub. That is the only way it can boot Ubuntu, because ntldr can't boot Ubuntu. Grub can boot Windows. If in turn you don't want the Grub loader you simply have to dislodge it and replace it with another boot loader. There is no need to format partitions or reinstall Windows to do that, a bit of research on the net would have quickly yielded answers to your dilemma, it is a simple operation that takes very little time to accomplish.

The part about that whole post that scares me most... "Mind you I do computer repairs."

In the old days the trolls would post "Don't install M$ Windoze, switch to linux today!" And the Microsoft defenders would come unglued.
Now we see a post suggesting that a linux distro is problematic and a number of windows users jump to it's defence.
My how times have changed ;-)

Well to be accurate, I wasn't defending Linux, just putting the OP's supposed computer repair skills into question.

I think it's even less interesting how many maroons jump out of the woodwork to make sure there are so many posts in any thread that anything worth reading is will hidden, too.
What ever happened to ignoring trolls and keeping one's mouth shut if they had nothing relevant to say?

Microsoft's VirtualPC 2007 is very limited (and rather "parochial") in the variety of operating systems it'll support. If you want to try something other than a Microsoft OS or OS/2, VirtualPC is useless.
Personally, I use InnoTek's free VirtualBox, (http://virtualbox.org/). There are versions for either Linux or Windows hosts (the MacOS version is still in beta), and it supports most Linux distros, all Microsoft operating systems, OS/2, FreeBSD, and more.
